Make one now → The AI movie trailer generator opens Lula, your AI film director, with a trailer idea ready to go.
Trailers are the perfect AI film format. They are built from short, separate moments, they don't need one continuous scene, and everyone knows the rhythm: the setup, the turn, the montage, the title card.
Here is how to make one where you, a friend or your whole group are the stars.
Why trailers work so well
Today's video models make strong shots of a few seconds each. A trailer is exactly that: a run of strong moments. You don't need a scene to hold together for a minute, so every shot can be its own best moment.
The one hard part is keeping the star the same person in every shot. That's what the steps below solve.
Step 1: Save your face once
Use a few clear, well-lit photos of your face from slightly different angles. Avoid sunglasses, heavy filters and group photos.
In CarePhoto you can save these as a persona and then cast yourself in any film by your @handle. Or just attach a photo in the Director chat and say "this is me". Only use photos of friends who have agreed to star.
Step 2: Pick a genre with a clear shape
Each genre has a structure audiences recognize in two seconds. Pick one and lean into it.
| Genre | The shape | Signature shot |
|---|---|---|
| 90s action | Calm life, the call, one last job | Slow-motion hero walk |
| Romantic comedy | Meet-cute, mix-up, run through the rain | Two people laughing in golden light |
| Prestige documentary | Something small treated as epic | A close-up with festival laurels on screen |
| Fantasy epic | The ordinary hero, the prophecy, the journey | A sweeping drone shot over mountains |
| Sci-fi thriller | A quiet world, a signal, a choice | A lone figure in a vast space |
Step 3: Plan six shots
A 30- to 45-second trailer needs about six shots:
- The ordinary world (5 s): you, in your normal life.
- The inciting moment (4 s): the call, the letter, the knock.
- The reaction (3 s): a close-up of your face.
- The montage (2 to 3 shots of 3 to 4 s): action, travel, tension.
- The title card (4 s): a big, simple title on black.
You don't have to plan this yourself. Tell Lula the genre and the premise, and she proposes the shot list, durations and a look bible that keeps your wardrobe and the light consistent.
Copy this:
A 45-second movie trailer starring me: a 90s action film where I am an off-duty pilot who has to land a plane in a storm. Big title card at the end. 16:9.
Step 4: Approve every frame of you
Each shot starts as an opening frame. Check that it looks like you: face, hair, build, the outfit from the look bible. If one doesn't, ask Lula for another take with a note like "closer to my photo, softer light".
Frames are much cheaper than renders, so be picky here. Every clip opens exactly on the frame you approve.
Step 5: Render with sound
Trailer lines land when they are short. Put one or two spoken lines in quotes in the shot descriptions:
I look up at the storm and say "Not today."
Lula tells you the render price before anything starts. Say yes and the shots render with native sound.
Step 6: Cut it to music
On the timeline, upload a track you have the rights to. Trim each shot to the beat, put the biggest moment right before the title card, and export. Post it 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, or 16:9 for YouTube.
Five trailer ideas to steal
- Retired stunt driver, one last job. 90s action, slow-motion walk, title card.
- The bookshop and the wrong coffee order. Cozy rom-com, autumn light.
- My quest for the perfect sourdough. Prestige documentary, festival laurels.
- The reluctant mapmaker. Fantasy epic, mountain drone shots, 21:9.
- The birthday hero. Your friend saves the city and finds the last slice of cake.

Keep it original
Make an original trailer in the style of a genre. Don't use real movie titles, logos or copyrighted characters, and only star people who said yes.
Make yours
Open the Director, attach a photo or pick your persona, and tell Lula your genre. You'll approve your first frame in a few minutes. For more ways to star in a film, see put yourself in a movie or read how to make a short film with AI.
